Keep your recovery key safe

If you forget a vault's password, its recovery key opens it. We cannot reset either one, because we never have them.

Steps

Write the 12 words on paper, in order, with the vault's name next to them.
Keep the paper away from the phone: at home, in a safe place, or with a person you trust.
Do not store the words as a photo or a note on the same phone. Someone who takes the phone would get the key too.
To see the key again, open the vault, open its menu (⋮) and choose Password & recovery, then Recovery key. The app asks for the vault's password first.

Good to know

Anyone who has the 12 words can open the vault. Guard them like the password.
The recovery key of your home vault is also your account's recovery key. You find it in Settings, under Account.
A recovery key also brings a vault to a new device, with Open vault.
